Joint Appointment with National Physical Laboratory

Lecturer in Experimental Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Metrology
(Ref: 9456)

Salary: up to £44,607
(subject to experience and qualifications)

The University of Surrey and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) have recently launched a strategic initiative by appointing a Chair of Radionuclide Metrology to develop research in radioactivity metrology, in close collaboration with the nuclear industry. We are seeking to appoint an experimental nuclear physicist to consolidate this investment. We are looking for candidates with an excellent record of research in nuclear physics and with an interest in radioactivity measurement.

The job holder will be a member of both the University of Surrey and NPL and should expect to contribute to the NPL radioactivity metrology programme as part of a balanced research programme in experimental nuclear physics. They should have a proven track record in nuclear physics research and will be expected to take the lead in developing their research programme at Surrey. They will be expected to contribute to Surrey’s portfolio of undergraduate and graduate teaching and to take a normal role in the University’s affairs.

The job holder will be employed by the University of Surrey and located within the Department of Physics, with full access to the USS final salary pension scheme. They will be expected to travel to both Guildford and NPL, as required. This will be a permanent academic appointment, with an NPL commitment of five years in the first instance.
