POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

The Medium Energy Physics Group at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) and Duke University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. The group has research interests which include studies of nucleon structure at the High Intensity Gamma Source (HIGS) facility at the Duke University Free Electron Laser Laboratory and at Jefferson Lab, e.g. a precise measurement of the proton charge radius in Hall B at Jefferson Lab; the transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMD) studies employing a polarized 3He, and NH3 targets, and the newly proposed SoLID device in Hall A with a 12-GeV CEBAF at Jefferson Lab; the double-polarization Compton scattering experiment from a polarized 3He target at HIGS to extract the neutron spin polarizabilities and polarized photodisintegration of 3He to test the state-of-the-art three-body calculations as well as the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule on 3He.

The group is also actively involved in the development of TMD physics at a future electron-ion collider. The group also has an active program in studies of fundamental symmetries, e.g. a new neutron EDM experiment at the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beam-line (FNPB) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and tabletop experiments searching for new types of forces.

We are looking for candidates who can make creative and important contributions to our program. A PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics or related fields is required. The initial appointment is for one year, to commence on Oct 1, 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Based on mutual satisfaction and continued funding, the possibility for extension exists for a maximum of two additional years. Applicants should submit a vita and brief statement of research interests, and should have three letters of recommendation sent to:
