TRIUMF involvement in next round of CFI proposals - 2013/07/15

Dear colleagues,
As many of you are aware CFI is gearing up for a competition, which will be announced in the Fall of 2013.
Several universities have already announced internal deadlines for letters of intent for this CFI competition.

In this context it is important for TRIUMF to be aware of any and all potential requests for TRIUMF resources for these CFI projects.
Following our established project management system, we will not commit to any resources unless the project has been reviewed and approved in the Gate Review process. This process will also help with vetting resource estimates and timelines. (See http://www.triumf.ca/project-management.)

Therefore, if you are planning to submit a CFI LoI for this upcoming competition that would involve any TRIUMF resources, and have not done so already, you MUST:
- submit a project charter sheet
- present your project in a Gate 1 review, which should be scheduled as soon as possible in coordination with the TRIUMF Project Management Office

If your project has not been reviewed by TRIUMF, you cannot count on the availability of any TRIUMF resources and TRIUMF will decline to participate in the project.

Please note as well that in general TRIUMF is not able to commit any explicit in-kind contributions to CFI projects including costs for TRIUMF manpower, e.g. design office, engineering, machine shop, electronics development, detector laboratory, and so on.

Sincerely,
Reiner Kruecken
Science Division Head
