Post-Doctoral Position - University of Massachusetts Amherst

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to work on precisions tests of the Standard Model with the Experimental Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The successful candidate will work primarily on the new muon g-2 experiment E989 at Fermilab. This exciting experiment aims at a four-fold improved measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon to an accuracy of 0.14 ppm. Comparison with theoretical predictions allows a precision test of the Standard Model, with outstanding sensitivity to new physics at the TeV-scale. UMass has responsibilities for precision NMR-based magnetic field measurements and analysis, and other aspects of the experiment. More details can be found at http://muon-g-2.fnal.gov

The position is for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. The position is based initially at UMass, then Fermilab.

Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in experimental physics with experience in precision measurements in atomic, molecular, nuclear, or particle physics preferred.

Application Instructions:
To apply online, please go to http://umass.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=46823 and submit a current CV and a description of research interests. Also, please arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent separately by email to: kawall@physics.umass.edu. Review of applications will begin March 12th. The nominal start date is April 15, 2014. The position will remain open until filled.

The Physics Department is committed in its efforts to hire candidates who will enhance the diversity and gender balance its faculty, staff and students. We encourage women and members of minority groups to apply. The University of Massachusetts is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
