Experimental Subatomic Physics – Research Associate
The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work in the area of experimental subatomic physics. Candidates with outstanding research potential and with an interest in electroweak studies in electron-nuclear scattering are especially invited to apply. Research will be conducted at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Newport News, Virginia, with a focus on current and future measurements of parity violation in electron scattering. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop an independent research effort and to participate in other aspects of the rich research program at the laboratory.
This position will be supported by a Department of Energy research contract. This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for two additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance. The completion of a Ph.D. degree in experimental nuclear or high energy physics is required by the appointment start date. Priority will be given to candidates with a track-record of excellence in subatomic physics research, including both significant analysis experience and hands-on hardware experience (for example: detector systems or laser optics).
To apply, please submit a candidate profile on-line and attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae and the contact information for three professional references through Jobs@UVA (https://jobs.virginia.edu); search on posting number 0613931.
Review of applications will begin on April 28, 2014; however, the position will remain open until filled.
