Postdoctoral research staff member at LLNL
The Experimental Nuclear Physics Group at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has an opening for a postdoctoral research staff member to join an effort to develop and implement new techniques to study the beta decay of fission products and other isotopes of importance for basic and applied science. This research will take advantage of the mass-separated fission product beams now available from the CARIBU facility at Argonne National Laboratory. Responsibilities include design, simulation, and instrumentation of the radiation detection systems needed for precise studies of beta-decay properties. Additional responsibilities include participating in existing efforts to perform decay spectroscopy using trapped ions and to measure cross sections at accelerator-based nuclear physics facilities. A recent PhD in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, nuclear chemistry, or a related field is required. In addition, at LLNL, every postdoctoral researcher is encouraged to spend 25% of their time on projects of their choosing – this can provide an opportunity to continue existing collaborations (or develop new ones), explore options for internal programmatic work at LLNL, attend conferences, and develop ideas for proposal submissions.
