Post-doctoral Researcher Positions in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the University of Tennessee
POST DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITIONS IN
EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR STRUCTURE, REACTIONS, AND ASTROPHYSICS UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, KNOXVILLE (UTK)
The Experimental Low Energy Nuclear Physics Group is seeking candidates for a two postdoctoral positions. The UTK group is a member of the Center of Excellence for Radioactive Ion Beam Studies for Stewardship Science (RIBSS), a consortium of nuclear scientists, including those at Rutgers University, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, focusing on reaction and decay studies to probe nuclear structure and astrophysics. The group also has funding from the US Department of Energy, Office of Science.
The RIBSS center has developed detector systems for reaction and decay studies, namely the ORRUBA array of position-sensitive silicon strip detectors, and the VANDLE neutron TOF array of plastic scintillators. Currently, the UTK group are leading the development of the HAGRiD scintillator array for high efficiency measurements of gamma rays following nuclear reaction and decays.
The successful candidates will both be based at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. One position will be focused on either VANDLE or HAGRiD development and implementation. The second will be working mostly in direct reactions, including developing (d,n) proton-transfer reactions in inverse kinematics at Coulomb barrier energies. These positions provide excellent opportunities for early career scientists to develop a research program and contribute to the experimental and detector development efforts of an established group of researchers.
The experimental program will be carried out in US national laboratories as well as laboratories abroad. The UT – Knoxville group has demonstrated an excellent track record in experimental nuclear structure studies of nuclei far from stability with a strong connection to nuclear astrophysics. The candidate should have demonstrable experience with experiments at accelerator facilities, as well as excellent programming and data analysis skills. One position is available from Spring 2015, the second will be available in Fall 2015.
Applicants should apply on-line at: https://ut.taleo.net/careersection/ut_knoxville/jobdetail.ftl?lang=en&j…
Please provide your CV with a list of publications. Two letters of recommendation are requested. Any questions regarding this posting can be sent to Dr. Robert Grzywacz at rgrzywac@utk.edu.
