The Department of Physics at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in experimental nuclear and particle physics. This position will be jointly funded by TRIUMF for an initial five-year period, during which time the successful candidate will have reduced teaching assignments at the University of Winnipeg in order to accelerate the establishment of a vigorous externally funded research program in ultracold neutron (UCN) research at TRIUMF. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Physics, or equivalent, and preferably have postdoctoral experience.
Members of the Department of Physics conduct experimental research in the areas of subatomic physics, hyperpolarized nuclei, and medical imaging studies, while theoretical research is in the areas of gravity, quantum field theory, string theory, and phenomenology. Faculty members in experimental subatomic physics are involved in major projects at TRIUMF, Jefferson Laboratory, JPARC, RCNP Osaka, SNS, and elsewhere. Several faculty members supervise graduate students through adjunct professorial arrangements with the University of Manitoba, or through the University of Winnipeg's Master of Science in Bioscience, Technology and Public Policy program. As well, opportunities exist for developing collaborations with local groups at the Health Sciences Centre and in Medical Physics at CancerCare Manitoba. The successful candidate will have a strong research record in subatomic physics with the intention of a strong research program supporting the UCN project at TRIUMF. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong commitment to teaching physics.
Subject to budgetary approval, this appointment will commence on July 1, 2015. Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
