POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION IN FUNDAMENTAL SYMMETRY TESTS WITH LASER-TRAPPED FRANCIUM AT TRIUMF

The Canadian group within the FrPNC collaboration (TRIUMF/Manitoba/Maryland/ William & Mary, San Luis Potosi) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral associate. Over the past few years we have established a laser trapping facility for francium at the ISAC radioactive beam facility at TRIUMF, Vancouver and are now starting to implement atomic parity violation experiments. The ultimate goals are a low- energy test of the Standard Model (see e.g. arXiv.org/abs/0810.3942) and measurements of the nuclear anapole moment caused by parity-violating nucleon- nucleon interactions (arxiv.org/abs/physics/0412124).

Applicants should either have obtained a PhD in atomic or nuclear physics within the past 5 years or be expected to obtain one prior to the position’s start date. The successful candidate will be employed by and based at TRIUMF, Canada’s National Laboratory for Nuclear and Particle Physics, in Vancouver and will take a leadership role in implementing the experiments, including the day-to-day supervision of both undergraduate and graduate students. Prior experience with neutral atom traps and associated laser systems is highly desirable. In addition, experience working at radioactive beam facilities or in high precision laser spectroscopy will be considered an asset.

The appointment comes with a competitive benefits package and a salary commensurate with training and experience, and will be initially for one year. Renewal for up to two additional years is possible upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. We invite qualified candidates to submit their applications with a CV, and a brief statement on research experience and interests together with names of three references, by email to:
