Experimental Nuclear Physics
Michigan State U., NSCL - Postdoc

Job description:
The Charge-Exchange group at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University in East Lansing Michigan is seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join experimental nuclear physics research focused on spin-isospin excitations, their roles in astrophysical phenomena, and the macroscopic properties of nuclei and nuclear matter they reveal. The experimental program involves experiments with medium-energy (~100 MeV/u) beams of rare isotopes, and utilizes magnetic spectrometers as well as neutron and gamma detection systems.

The Charge-Exchange group has a significant focus on astrophysics and collaborates with nuclear theorists and astrophysicists on guiding and benchmarking theoretical efforts to produce accurate weak reaction rates for simulations of astrophysical phenomena. Such efforts are embedded within the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics – Center of the Evolution of the Elements.
