Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (EMMA)

TRIUMF is Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics and accelerator-based science. We are an international centre for discovery and innovation, advancing fundamental, applied, and interdisciplinary research for science, medicine, and business.

In support of our Nuclear Physics program, we are currently recruiting to fill a postdoctoral research position in experimental nuclear physics. The successful candidate will collaborate on experiments in nuclear astrophysics and nuclear structure physics using the Isotope Separator and Accelerator (ISAC)) radioactive beam facility at TRIUMF. In addition, he/she will also be expected to assume certain responsibilities associated with the new recoil mass spectrometer EMMA The successful applicant will be expected to:

Simulate, construct, install, integrate, and commission the components of EMMA
Participate in experiments at ISAC and ISAC-II
Prepare reports and documentation for review panels
Disseminate results as articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and at national and international conferences and workshops
Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students

Applicants must demonstrate extensive knowledge of nuclear science, radiation measurement, operation of radiation detectors, and an understanding of electromagnetic theory. Qualifications include a recent Ph.D. in nuclear physics or nuclear chemistry obtained during or after 2011, with previous experience conducting scientific computing. Individuals who are expecting to complete a PhD early in 2016 are also encouraged to apply.

This grant funded position will be based at TRIUMF and the term of employment will be based on an initial commitment to a one year term. This may be renewed annually for further terms, based on mutual satisfaction and continued grant funding. Salary will be competitive depending on experience.
