Postdoctoral Position at the CSNSM, Orsay, France

We are looking for candidates to fill a 2-year postdoctoral position in the Nuclear Structure Group.

The joint CSNSM-IPNO-IRFU project entitled “Charting Terra Incognita” was officially launched at the beginning of May 2016. It consists of innovative R&D and research at the ALTO platform in Orsay on masses, radii, spins, shapes, moments and lifetimes of nuclear ground and excited states of exotic nuclei.

The successful candidate will work on the “In-trap spectroscopy” part of the project with the Maier-Leibnitz Laboratory Penning trap (MLLTrap) that will soon be installed at the ALTO facility. In particular, he or she will be responsible for the feasibility and characterisation studies (simulations, design, construction and commissioning) of in-trap particle detection and sub ns lifetime measurement of nuclear states populated by the alpha decay of rare isotopes.

Applicants should have a PhD in experimental nuclear physics (or should complete postgraduate studies very soon). They should have experience with Geant4 simulations (or equivalent) and instrumentation for electron and alpha-particle detection. Previous experience of working with ions traps is highly desirable. The candidate is also expected to participate and enrich our experimental program in nuclear spectroscopy in Dubna, Jyväskylä and GANIL.

The position will be funded by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and can start any time from January 1st 2017. The deadline to apply for the position is set to october 1st 2016.

Candidates should send a brief description of their work experience and a short CV to araceli.lopez-martens@csnsm.in2p3.fr. Any inquiries should be sent to the same address.
