Postdoctoral position at IPN Orsay, France

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in experimental subatomic physics at the Institut de Physique Nucléaire d’Orsay (France). The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be participation in the design, construction and experimentation of a new detector set-up for the measurement of the electric form factor of the proton at very low momentum transfer. The experiment will run at the PRAE (Platform for Research and Applications of Electrons) facility, currently under construction in Orsay.

The Institut de Physique Nucléaire d’Orsay plays leading roles in experiments and phenomenological developments aiming at the understanding of the nucleon and nucleus structure, for instance in the deeply virtual Compton scattering experimental program at the Jefferson Laboratory (Hall A, CLAS, CLAS12, Hall C). It is also a major component of the French technological centers for accelerator development, and a founding member of the PRAE project together with LAL and IMNC laboratories. The PRAE facility will feature a high precision high bunch charge electron beam in the 30-140 MeV energy range, at a 50 Hz repetition rate. This multi-purpose facility intends to provide high quality electron beam for fundamental research, instrumentation, industrial and medical applications.

The position is opened for two years, with a one-year renewal possibility depending upon mutual agreement and availability of funds. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in experimental physics at the beginning of the contract, expected to start during the first quarter of 2017. Experience in GEANT4 simulations and instrumentation is desirable. Consideration for candidates will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Applications should include full CV, a cover letter, and should arrange for three recommendation letters. Documents should be sent by e-mail to
