Postdoctoral Research Associate Position - Edinburgh NP Group

Silicon array for nuclear reaction studies on a storage ring

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position within the University of Edinburgh Nuclear Physics Group, supported by a STFC project grant. The group is developing a silicon detector system to be mounted within the ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environment of a heavy ion storage ring.
The system will be used for experiments in nuclear astrophysics and nuclear physics. You would be expected to work on the design, development and integration of the UHV vacuum chamber, silicon detectors and associated instrumentation. You will also be expected to help develop a program of commissioning and early science exploitation experiments.

You will have a PhD in experimental nuclear physics or nuclear astrophysics, or be about to be awarded one. Ideally you would have previous practical experience with silicon strip detector systems and instrumentation or other radiation detector systems, experience of nuclear physics data analysis techniques. Previous experience of studies of nuclear reaction/structure studies with radioactive or exotic beams or UHV systems would also be beneficial.

The names of two referees to be approached should be included in the application.
