Postdoc position at UVa

Experimental Research Associate in Medium-Energy Nuclear Physics
http://www.phys.virginia.edu/People/Jobs/#41

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applications for a post-doctoral Research Associate in experimental medium-energy nuclear physics, anticipated to begin July or August 2017. Candidates must have a PhD degree in physics by the appointment start date. This is a one-year appointment, with the potential for renewal for up to two additional one year appointments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

The candidate will work with Prof. Xiaochao Zheng, with a focus on the following Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLAB) topics (in no particular order): 1) Electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) R&D for the SoLID project, including prototype testing using both cosmic rays or test facilities (e.g. JLab, Beijing IHEP, Fermilab); 2) Full-scale simulation for the SoLID EMCal; 3) Data analysis focusing on completed JLab spin structure experiments (the group is currently involved in analysis of the Hall A small-angle GDH and Hall B EG4 experiments); and 4) Play a leading role in the upcoming 12 GeV Hall C A1n experiment. Based on the candidate's research background and profile, he/she may not be in charge of all tasks listed above, but should be able to carry out a majority of them. The candidate will work with undergraduate students on a regular basis, and will assist in guiding graduate students within the group. The candidate is also encouraged to work on independent analysis and/or experimental proposals that will lead to journal publications and further career advancement.

To apply, please submit a candidate profile on-line through Jobs@Uva (https://jobs.virginia.edu), and electronically attach a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional references; search on posting 0621000. Please arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Xiaochao Zheng (xz5y@virginia.edu).

Review of applications will begin June 10, 2017; however, the position will remain open until filled.

Questions regarding this position should be directed to Xiaochao Zheng (xz5y@virginia.edu).
