Tenure-track faculty position at Stony Brook University

The Department of Physics & Astronomy (http://www.physics.sunysb.edu/Physics/) at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of experimental nuclear physics. The initial appointment will be jointly as a Fellow with the RIKEN-BNL Research Center (RBRC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), for a period of up to five years. During this period the successful candidate will spend about half of his or her time at Stony Brook University and the other half at the RBRC. At the end of this initial period the candidate will be considered for promotion with tenure at Stony Brook University. The expected start date is September 2018.

The Department features a highly ranked faculty, excellent students, close affiliation with experimental and theoretical research centers of international reputation at Stony Brook University, and its proximity to BNL.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated research credentials in experimental nuclear or high energy physics. He/she is expected to develop a research program in experimental nuclear physics, and will have an opportunity to join the ongoing efforts on design, construction and physics with the sPHENIX detector while pursuing other current physics opportunities in the field, and in the out years lead in to the science of an Electron Ion Collider (EIC). The candidate is also expected to attract independent research funding and possess a keen interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the department.

The applications should be submitted at: Â https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9621

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of up to three recent papers, a research statement, a statement of teaching philosophy, and names (and affiliation) of at least three references.
