POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, EXPERIMENTAL MEDIUM ENERGY PHYSICS at CMU

The Carnegie Mellon University Experimental Quark Interaction (Medium
Energy Physics) Group invites applications for a post-doctoral
research position to support our work in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. The
position is renewable for up to three years. The starting date is
negotiable.

The faculty members in our group are Gregg Franklin, Brian Quinn,
Curtis Meyer, and Reinhard Schumacher, with the first two working
mostly on Hall A experiments while the latter two concentrate on the
GlueX experiment in Hall D. The group usually supports two or three
post-docs and 4 to 7 graduate students. Our present activities in
Hall A include: Compton polarimetery for parity-violating electron
scattering experiments (PREx and CREx), commissioning of a large
hadron calorimeter (built at CMU) for the Super Bigbite Spectrometer
(SBS), and preparation for SBS experiments. Participation in these
activities is encouraged and new initiatives, including experiments at
other laboratories, are welcome.

We seek candidates with strong experimental skills including data
analysis and simulation and preferably with some hardware experience.
Experience with Root, Geant4, and CODA would be very useful.
Candidates with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics, medium
energy, or high energy physics are encouraged to apply. Further
information about some of the group's activities can be found at
www.cmu.edu/physics/research/nuclear-particle.html .

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and summary of research
interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation
submitted. Documents should be submitted through:
https://apply.interfolio.com/54663

If this is not possible, they
should be sent to Prof. Quinn at bquinn@cmu.edu or to: Prof. Brian
Quinn, Physics Department, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA,
15213. All applications received by Oct. 31 will be considered, and
review will continue until the position is filled. For more
information, contact Prof. Quinn at the addresses given above.
