University of Virginia post-doctoral Research Associate

he Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a post-doctoral Research Associate position to work on the installation and running of the Super BigBite (SBS) project experiments and on the preparations for the proposed SoLID project at the Jefferson Lab.

The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Nilanga Liyanage and Dr. Kondo Gnanvo which has a large program to develop Micro Pattern Gas Detector (MPGD) based particle tracking systems for ongoing and future experiments at Jefferson lab and at the proposed Electron Ion Collider (EIC).   We currently are playing a leading role on the SBS project, where we are responsible for the fabrication, installation and commissioning of the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detector-based tracker.   We are also leading the design and development of GEM detectors for SoLID and Moller projects at Jefferson Lab.

The successful candidate is expected to be stationed at the Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia, to take a leading role in managing the installation, commissioning and running of the SBS GEM trackers.

QUALIFCATION REQUIRMENTS: The successful candidate must have a PhD in experimental nuclear physics or in experimental high energy physics by the start date. Experience with detector hardware and/or data acquisition systems is preferred. Strong knowledge, skills and experience in some of the following fields are required: experimental nuclear or particle physics, particle detector installation, or data acquisition.
