Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking outstanding candidates with expertise in reaction theory for a junior rank faculty position in theoretical nuclear science at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). FRIB theory faculty members typically have joint appointments in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (PA), where they teach and supervise graduate students. 

The successful candidate is expected to establish and sustain a sponsored research program in reaction theory relevant to the research conducted at FRIB, make scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective instructor and mentor to a diverse cohort of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in institutional and public service.

FRIB is a world-class laboratory for nuclear science, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science with user operations beginning in 2022. It is home to forefront experimental and theoretical research programs in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear chemistry and accelerator science, with about 120 Ph.D. students in these areas. FRIB will vastly expand the range of rare isotope beams available to the research community and offer tremendous potential for scientific discovery. The new faculty member will be centrally involved in this discovery.
