Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science PDF program

The Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS) was set up to support scientific activities aimed at the U.S. Electron Ion Collider (EIC).  CFNS established a Joint CFNS-institutional postdoctoral fellow program in 2018/2019, which has been very successful in supporting young scientists to work on EIC related activities at various institutions within the EIC Users group. Under this program CFNS pays 50% of the salary for a postdoctoral fellow (up to a maximum of 30k$) at a remote institution and $5k in travel support (to and from the Center) per year, up to a period of two years. It is expected that the Joint CFNS Fellows spend 3-4 months each year at CFNS (Stony Brook/BNL) to enhance collaboration with CFNS and EIC community. Any permanent or potentially permanent faculty/research scientist at a university or national laboratory within the EIC Users Group is eligible to apply.

CFNS intends to support up to 5 new joint positions starting Fall 2021. We encourage tenure track scientists (early career) in the field to apply. Initiatives related to preparing EIC detector proposals will be given special considerations this year.

More information and the application form is available from the CFNS Jobs Page and directly here, In the form we will ask for the following description:

* Project description & justification and the expected impact on the EIC physics case or the detector/accelerator design: 300 words + optional additional 1 page pdf upload.
* Anticipated (approximate) start and end of appointment
* Description of the source of the rest of the funds
* Any additional information that you consider relevant for the review committee
The proposals will be evaluated by a committee consisting of members of the CFNS Steering and International Advisory committees.

Deadline for application is June 30th. We expect to contact the PI's of the selected proposals by the beginning August, 2021.

All queries should be sent to: cfns_contact@stonybrook.edu.

Sincerely,
Abhay Deshpande
