Applications are welcomed from qualified graduate students enrolled in full-time studies at a Canadian university for research within the academic areas covered by the CINP bylaws.  Each fellowship will be for $13,000.  The awardee’s supervisor or home institution must agree to supplement the scholarship from institutional or research funds to a value of not less than $33,000.  During the fellowship period, the awardee will also be eligible to access conference travel funds by application to the CINP Junior Scientist Travel program.  Up to three fellowships are available, depending on the number of applications received.

Purpose:  The CINP Graduate Fellowship program is intended to support excellence in graduate nuclear physics research, and to make Canada a more attractive place for graduate students in nuclear physics.

Eligibility: Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. program in experimental or theoretical nuclear physics at a Canadian university.  Students can apply at any stage of their program, including the final year of their M.Sc. program prior to beginning Ph.D. studies.  The student must be an associate member of the CINP and the student's supervisor must hold faculty membership in the CINP.  [Applications for membership in the CINP may be submitted concurrently with the fellowship application.]   Awardees may not concurrently hold another major full-time scholarship or fellowship, and must be at least 12 months from the expected completion of their degree.  Each fellowship is for 12 months.  Students seeking a second year must resubmit an application, and are only eligible to hold the fellowship for a total of two times.

After completing the fellowship, awardees are required to provide a short report for inclusion in the CINP Newsletter on accomplishments during the period of the Fellowship, including:
•    Results of experimental or theoretical research undertaken under the fellowship period.
•    Summaries of talks or lectures based on such research.

Application Due Date: Application materials are due by close of business Monday, March 25, 2024.  Incomplete applications and applications received after the announced deadline will not be considered. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the required form and accompanying materials are received in a timely manner.

Evaluation Criteria and Process: A three member Fellowship Selection Committee will read and evaluate eligible applications and make the final award decision according to the following criteria:
•    Merit and quality of proposed research based on applicant's research plan.
•    Utility and relevance of the proposed research to the CINP long range plan.
•    Letters of recommendation.
•    Likelihood of accomplishment of the proposed research objectives by graduation.
•    Academic qualifications from official transcripts.
•    Statement on promoting and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in the CINP community.
