Idaho State University PDF position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position in the experimental nuclear physics group of Prof. Dustin McNulty at Idaho State University (ISU).  The position is for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.  Review of applications will begin immediately with an expected start date as early as October 1, 2022.  The position will initially be based at ISU in Pocatello, ID, and then transition to Jefferson Lab in Newport News, VA after 1 to 2 years.  Occasional travel between ISU and Jefferson Lab will be required.

The successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to the development of the MOLLER experiment at Jefferson Lab.  MOLLER is poised to perform a precision electroweak test of the standard model in search of new physics at TeV scales.  The experiment is now in the engineering design and construction phase.  Ongoing ISU activities include design, construction, and testing of the MOLLER Shower-max detector system, radiation hardness testing of detector components at the Idaho Accelerator Center on the ISU campus, detector-related systematic error studies using simulation and bench-top tests, and integration of the MOLLER detector systems within the experimental Hall A infrastructure.  Duties may also include supervising and coordinating the work of other researchers including graduate and undergraduate students.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics or a closely related field by the starting date, and have expertise in an area relevant to the group’s research program. These include experimental hardware, data acquisition, analysis and simulations.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in any of the following areas is an advantage: software and hardware development in accelerator-based experiments, C++, root, GEANT4 and related CERN library tools.  Familiarity with the JLab CODA data acquisition system is preferred but not required.

Application Procedure: Apply online at: https://isu.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/5/home/requisition/1692?c=isu.
Please submit the following documents with your application: Cover Letter addressed to Dr. Dustin McNulty, outlining your research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three references.  The position will remain open until filled, however, applications received by Sep 9, 2022 will receive priority consideration. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Includes a competitive benefits package. Offers of employment may be conditional pending successful completion of a background check.  Inquiries regarding the position can be directed to Prof. Dustin McNulty (dustinmcnulty@isu.edu).
