Postdoc Position at Argonne National Lab

The Medium Energy Physics Group in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking exceptional candidates for two postdoctoral positions beginning as soon as the Spring of 2019.

We have an active and broad-ranging program in hadron and nuclear physics. Our current focus is on hadron structure studies through electron scattering measurements at Jefferson Lab in Halls A, B and C with a special emphasis in Hall B. In Hall A we are leading the PREX/CREX experiments as well as form factors experiments at large Q2. In Hall B, we are leading experiments in Run Groups B, C, D and E with an extensive physics program with the goal of making significant advances in the 3D partonic structure of nucleons and nuclei through a suite of measurements of exclusive and semi-inclusive processes. In Hall C we are leading two "high impact" experiments: the measurement of J/Psi production at threshold on a hydrogen target, and the measurement of the virtual-photon neutron asymmetry A1n and g2n at large Bjorken x using a polarized 3He target. Furthermore, we are also contributors to the science and detector development for a future electron ion collider. There are plenty of opportunities for the candidate to play a leading role in the science and detector R&D for an EIC.

The Medium Energy Group is also involved in parton distribution measurements at Fermilab, the MUSE measurement of the Proton Radius at PSI, the NEXT experiment and measuring Radium EDM.

Applicants must submit their curriculum vitae and a brief research statement online to http://www.anl.gov/careers/apply-job/postdoctoral-applicants searching on requisition number 406181. Initial application review will begin May 1st, and continue until the position is filled.

Qualifications and Essential Job Functions
- Ph.D. in nuclear/particle physics by the time of the appointment
- A strong record of recent accomplishments in experimental physics
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good knowledge of the C++, Python and Java programming languages
- Knowledge of Linux and high performance computing is desirable

The position is for one (1) year, with the possibility of extension for up to three (3) years contingent on funding and performance.
