The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a postdoctoral position with its experimental nuclear physics group.  The research activities of the group focus on precision tests of low-energy QCD and searches for new physics beyond the standard model via the light pseudoscalar meson decay measurements at Jefferson Lab. The group seeks a postdoctoral research associate working in the GlueX collaboration in Hall D and focusing on the PrimEx-eta and the JLab Eta Factory (JEF) experiments. The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions  in the areas of: (1) performing the PrimEx-eta experiment and analyzing the data to extract the ç radiative decay width via the Primakoff effect; (2) developing an upgraded Forward Calorimeter (FCAL-II) with a PWO crystal insert needed by the JEF experiment to search for various sub-GeV dark gauge boson candidates and new C-violating, P-conserving interactions in the ç and ç’ decays; and (3) conducting Monte Carlo simulations to optimize the experimental sensitivities. New initiatives, including new experiment development, are also welcome.

We seek candidates with strong experimental skills in data analysis, simulation and preferably with some hardware experience. Experience with Root, Geant4, and C++ would be very useful. Candidates with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics, medium energy, or high energy physics are encouraged to apply.  This is a one-year position and renewable for up to three years,  with the starting date negotiable.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a summary of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation. The application document should be uploaded on   https://jobs.uncw.edu/.  If this is not possible, the document should be sent to Prof. Liping Gan at ganl@uncw.edu.  Review of applications will commence on July 15 and will continue until the position is filled.
