PDF position at UNC Wilmington

The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a postdoctoral position with its experimental nuclear physics group.  The research activities of the group focus on precision tests of low-energy QCD and searches for new physics beyond the standard model via the decays of light pseudoscalar mesons, eta and eta', at Jefferson Lab, Newport News, VA.

The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions  in the areas of: (1) leading the analysis of recently completed PrimEx-eta experiment on the eta radiative decay width  and publishing the results; (2) installing and commissioning an upgraded Forward Calorimeter (FCAL-II) with a PWO crystal insert needed by the JLab Eta Factory (JEF) experiment to search for various sub-GeV dark gauge boson candidates and new C-violating, P-conserving interactions in the eta and eta' decays; and (3) preparing a new experiment to measure the pi0 transition form factor via the Primakoff effect. Duties may also include supervising and coordinating the work of other researchers and personnel, especially undergraduate students, and developing new ideas for experiments or analysis efforts at Jefferson Lab.

This appointment will be initially for one year and is renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. Applicants should have a PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics, and experience with data analysis and Geant simulations. Some hardware experience  or advanced computational skills will be a plus.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a summary of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation  through the web site https://jobs.uncw.edu/postings/27771.  The review of applications will commence on April 4, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.   If  you have any questions regarding to the position, please contact Prof. Liping Gan at ganl@uncw.edu
