Post-Doctoral Position-Experimental Nuclear Physics-University of North Carolina Wilmington

The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a postdoctoral position with its experimental nuclear physics group. The research activities of the group focus on precision tests of fundamental symmetries and searches for new physics beyond the standard model via the decays of light pseudoscalar mesons at Jefferson Lab, Newport News, VA.
The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions in the areas of: (1) performing the JLab Eta Factory (JEF) experiment and data analysis to search for various sub-GeV dark gauge boson candidates and new C-violating, P-conserving interactions in the decays; (2) analyzing PrimEx-eta experimental data on the radiative decay width and publishing the results; and (3) preparing a new experiment to measure the Ï€0 transition form factor via the Primakoff effect. Duties may also include supervising and coordinating the work of  undergraduate students, and developing innovative ideas for experiments or analysis efforts at Jefferson Lab.
This appointment will be initially for one year and is renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. Applicants should have a PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics, and experience with data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations. Some hardware experience or advanced computational skills will be a plus.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae with publication list, a summary of research experience and interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation directly sent to Prof. Liping Gan at ganl@uncw.edu. The review of applications will commence on Jan 15, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
