Postdoc opportunity at the University of Virginia

Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a post-doctoral research associate position to work on projects in experimental subatomic (nuclear and particle) physics.

The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Dinko Pocanic to work on precision experimental tests of the Standard Model with light particles. The group is currently focused on three major projects at different stages of implementation: (a) advanced stage analysis of PEN data, a precision test of lepton universality in pion decay run at PSI, (b) staging and commissioning of the Nab experiment, a precision study of correlations in neutron beta decay at SNS, ORNL, and (c) running of the Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab and analysis of the acquired data.

The successful candidate is expected to be stationed at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and will take on significant responsibilities in one or two of the above projects.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD degree in Physics, Experimental Nuclear Physics, or Experimental High Energy Physics by the appointment start date. Strong knowledge, skills and experience in experimental nuclear or particle physics, including high proficiency with Geant4 and related CERN library tools, are required.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests, and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters.
