Tsinghua University Postdoc Positions

The experimental hadron physics group at Tsinghua University invite applications for two postdoc positions in experimental hadron physics.  The group is actively participating in existing and upcoming experiments at Thomas Jefferson Lab (JLab) and designing new experiments on future Electron-Ion Collider ( EIC). We utilize high-energy electron beams to study the internal structure of nucleons and nuclei. The current focuses are the measurements of nucleon spin structure and its three-dimensional distributions using polarized electron beam and polarized targets and high-intensity large acceptance detectors, such as SoLID. We also heavily invest the experimental efforts of understanding the origin of nucleon-nucleon interactions via measuring Short-Range Correlations (SRC), as well as how quarks and gluons behave in nuclei via studying the EMC effect. We play a key role in the detector developments and construction of the SoLID detector as well as detector developments for future EIC. The candidates are expected to work on detector developments for SoLID and EIC, participate in ongoing experiments at JLab including preparing, running, and analyzing new experiments in Hall-A and CLAS12 at JLab as well as SRC experiments at BM@N in JINR, Russia.

The initial appointment is for 2 years, starting from the Spring of 2022, with possible renewal for a third year. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the "Shuimu Tsinghua" fellowship (https://www.tsinghua.edu.cn/en/pdf/Shuimu_Tsinghua_Scholar_Programs_Global_Recruitment.pdf) at Tsinghua University. The "Shuimu Tsinghua" fellows will receive a competitive salary, enjoy the same medical plan privileges as Tsinghua faculty, and their children are offered positions at Tsinghua University’s kindergarten and primary school. Shuimu Tsinghua fellows can also participate in career training courses offered to Tsinghua faculty. Tsinghua provides transitional housing on campus to all postdoctoral fellows. Postdoctoral fellows will be supported to apply for the external research fund.

Requirements:

Candidates should own Ph.D. degree in experimental nuclear or particle physics, typically within three years after graduation. Candidates are expected to have good experience in data analysis, Monte-Carlo simulation using popular software in high-energy physics, and hold skills with multiple programming languages. Experience in working with particle detectors is preferred. It is also required to have the abilities of international travels, oral communication and presentation in international conferences, writing and publishing articles in English journals.

Interested candidates are asked to send their application documents: a cover letter, a CV, a research statement, and three reference letters to Prof. Zhihong Ye (yez@tsinghua.edu.cn, or yez@jlab.org). Please also feel free to reach out to him if there are any questions. The selection of candidates for interviews will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
