UVA Postdoctoral Research Associate opening

The Spin Physics Group at the University of Virginia has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Join our team and contribute to our innovative hadronic physics program working in spin phenomena, artificial intelligence, solid-state polarized target technology, 3D structure of the nucleon, physics beyond the standard model, and future facilities and experiments.

We invite applications from researchers with interest in Hadronic Physics to play a leading role in our research and the upcoming SpinQuest experiment. The successful candidate will join our effort at Fermilab on the SpinQuest experiment and help lead in the extraction of Transverse Momentum Distribution (TMD) functions using experimental data and advanced artificial intelligence techniques. Our group plays a central role in all aspects of the SpinQuest experiment and leads the SpinQuest polarized target team.  Additionally, artificial intelligence and machine learning are central to our group's effort, including phenomenological extraction, data analysis, particle tracking and reconstruction, experiment monitoring, controls, and all aspects of instrumentation. We also have projects in all experimental Halls at Jefferson Lab and are also involved in future projects at CERN and the EIC.

This opportunity allows the successful applicant to collaborate with an international team of researchers at several national laboratories. The role offers access to state-of-the-art computing facilities at the University of Virginia and collaborating institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in experimental or theoretical nuclear, particle or high-energy physics (or closely related field) by the start date. The successful candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills with a strong background in one of the following; artificial intelligence, TMD phenomenology (or data analysis), or solid-state polarized target systems.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and attach a CV and a brief statement of research interests and experience. Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to dustin@virginia.edu.

Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on Jan 01, 2024. The position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
